Preparing For Menopause with Dr Ferhat Uddin

There are more than 50 symptoms of the menopause and they range from hot flushes mood swings anxiety joint pains, insomnia, brain fog, loss of libido and much, much more.

During perimenopause our bodies experience a drop in oestrogen levels. When this happens, our bodies turn to oestrogen made by our fat cells which can lead to the formation of belly fat. In addition, the decrease in oestrogen levels impacts our good gut bacteria causing gut dysbiosis.

It’s not a losing battle though! We can alleviate many of these symptoms with good nutrition, lifestyle changes – possibly HRT and other therapeutic interventions including CBT, rest, yoga and breathwork.

Nutrition with Sabrina

Good Nutrition can alleviate menopause symptoms as well as prevent disease.

Phytoestrogens will reduce hot flushes. Try the phytoestrogen seed mix: Two parts flaxseed, one part sesame, one part pumpkin and one part sunflower – sprinkle over smoothies and salads too!

Add protein and complex carbohydrates to each meal to stay fuller for longer and control blood glucose levels. Stable blood glucose levels prevent irritability, anxiety and sugar cravings. Fibre is also a vital part of our diet to allow a slow release of glucose into the bloodstream and feed our essential got bacteria.

Fermented foods can also help – they increase the diversity of good gut bacteria, improving mood, anxiety and physical symptoms.  Good fats are also helpful. They are needed in our diet to make our sex hormones and for  optimal brain function.

Cortisol and Oestrogen with Dr Ferhat Uddin

It’s a tricky balance to find, but it starts with awareness and understanding what the body is doing.

CBT with Dr Knowles Bevis

If we can change our thoughts, we can change our perspective. Be kind to yourself. What would you say to a friend who was feeling how you do about their symptoms? How would you support them through this?

Remember thoughts are NOT facts: Is there another way to think about this situation?

Use breath to steady your heart rate and soothe your threat system. Try not to avoid things you usually enjoy. Choose what you want to do and do it.

Pace your activity and give yourself regular breaks to rest… Prioritise your own wellbeing: sleep, exercise and good food.

HRT with Dr Ferhat Uddin

HRT (hormone replacement therapy) can be life changing for menopausal symptoms and in most cases the benefits outweigh the risks.

Supplements or herbs such as red clover or sage have their place in reducing symptoms, but be aware of side effects.

Acupuncture can sometimes be helpful as an alternative therapy, and has no side effects.

HRT is the most effective line of symptom relief. Liberty Health Clinics provides women with all treatment options and fully informs women on their risks and benefits.

I was former shadow of myself until I met Dr Uddin. I'd become over-weight, depressed and I was barely functioning but immediately after my initial consultation with Dr Uddin, I felt relief. For the first time in a long while, I felt hope and I was able to anchor myself in her care. Dr Uddin is not only highly-qualified but also empathetic and intuitive. She listened and asked all the right questions. Within days I felt better in myself, Just knowing that I had someone that I could trust and that I was finally getting the help I so desperately needed. Dr Uddin provided me with a roadmap map and coached me along the way. I stuck with her 360-degree treatment plan and 6 months later I can honestly say that I don’t know where I’d be today without her. I feel better, wiser and more peaceful about the changes I’m going through. I have so much love, respect and gratitude for Dr Uddin. If you’re looking for professional, holistic support on your journey back to wellness. You’ve found it here. Resh, 2021,

Liberty Menopause

Truth is, I’ve had a fairly warped relationship with food ever since I can remember and after 30 years+ of disordered eating and then more recently coming into perimenopause, I felt totally resigned. And, despite the fact that I’d seen therapists in the past, I continued to struggle when it came to implementing and sustaining good habits. Things finally began to shift when I met Sabrina. Sabrina became my north star for all things nutrition. The combination of her expertise, wisdom and deep intuition made her approach to nutritional therapy potent . Sabrina took me under her wing and she was able to help me cut through deep mental barriers. She was able to help me accept myself, where I was in my life and most crucially, she was able to help me to internalise the fact that nutrition is more than food. She helped me understand that food is both life-force and a pleasure to be enjoyed – and on a practical level - she helped me to implement changes specific to my own needs. Today I'm a different person. I'm still on my journey but I'm finally learning a new way and I don't know where I'd be without her. Thank you so so much for showing up for me Sabrina. If you know you need support in altering your relationship with food and in building new habits and routines around food to help you feel better inside and out - you’ve struck gold. Resh, 2021.

I wanted you to know how grateful I am for your help over the last half a year. Despite everything, I wouldn’t give up my experience over that time because of the skills and understanding I’ve gained. Thank you for being a part of that. In particular, thank you for your warmth, non-judgement, and compassion which have helped me relate to myself in a new way.
